First cycle professional programme BA PHOTOGRAPY

The Higher School of Applied Sciences VIST is an independent institution of higher education. First cycle professional study programme Photography has been approved by the Council for Higher Education of the Republic of Slovenia in 2008. The study course lasts three years. In the first year, the emphasis is placed on fundamental subjects, in the second year on specialized subjects at a basic higher-education level, and in the third year on elective subjects providing stud ents with in-depth knowledge in their chosen fields, as well as specialization, practical work and the preparation of a diploma thesis. The study course is practice-oriented. The topics are presented from various points of view, with emphasis on teamwork and creative dialogue, and with the practical application of lectures and theory. Lectures are given by prominent Slovenian and foreign lecturers, all experts in their respective fields. Students are able to try their hand at and improve their skills in: art photography, advertising and fashion photography, documentary photography and photojournalism, various special techniques (including historical) and photography in a broader multimedia context. Apart from the three-year higher-education study course, upon the completion of which students are awarded certificates of higher education from photography, it is also possible to study only the accredited modules or specialize in them.

Enrolment requirements

The higher-education study programme Photography is open to either:

  • holders of the matura certificate,
  • holders of the vocational matura certificate,
  • holders of the final examination certificate from any four-year high school programmes,
  • who also have to pass the entrance exam at VIST and present their portfolio.

 

Completion of studies and title of graduates

To complete their studies, a student has to fulfill all the obligations of the study programme and successfully defend their diploma thesis, thus obtaining the required 180 ECTS credits. After the completion of studies, the student receives a degree, which is an officially recognized document. 

After the successful defense of their diploma thesis, the graduates receive the title:
Diplomirani fotograf (VS) equivalent to BA Photography.

 A total of 60 ECTS credit points may be obtained per study year, ECTS is equivalent to 25 to 30 hours of a student's work. In third year of studies students select electives in extent of 37 ECTS according to their interests.
